This Privacy Statement sets forth the data collection and usage policies and practices that apply to the BeKnown application, Workatude, Neighbourhood Jobs, as well as to other related mobile applications (“the application”).
By registering or by using this application, you explicitly accept, without limitation or qualification, the collection, use , transfer and storage of the personal information provided by you in the manner described in this Statement, including having your personal data transferred to, processed and stored in the United States. Please read this Statement carefully as it affects your rights and liabilities under law. If you disagree with the way we collect and process personal information, please do not use the application.

We encourage you to review the privacy policies and opt-out choices of those third parties so you can understand how they collect, use and share your information.

The application’s products and services are intended to enable third parties to see your personal information and to contact you. Profile information may be used for networking with other community members. Information you post in public areas will be accessed, used and stored by others around the world, including those in countries that might not have legislation that guarantees adequate protection of personal information as defined by your country of residence. By providing your personal information you acknowledge that you consent to your information being used as described here. While Monster takes measures to safeguard your information from unauthorised access or inappropriate use by third parties, Monster does not control these third parties and it is not responsible for their use of information you post or otherwise make available in public areas. Accordingly, you should ensure that you do not post sensitive personal information, including data relating to your (i) racial or ethnic origin (ii) political beliefs (iii) philosophical or religious beliefs (iv) membership of a trade union or political party (v) physical or mental health or genetic makeup (vi) addictions, (vii) sexual life (viii) the commission of criminal offences or proceedings and associated penalties or fines, or (ix) any Social Security Number or national identification number, to any application.
When you connect with the application or website it will have access to General Information about you in Facebook. The term General Information includes your own and your friends’ names, profile pictures, gender, user IDs, connections and any content shared using the Everyone privacy setting. Facebook may also make information about the location of your computer or access device and your age available to us in order to help us implement appropriate security measures and control the distribution of age-appropriate content. If your friend connects with the application or website, it will be able to access your name, profile picture, gender, user ID and information you have shared with “everyone.” It will also be able to access your connections, except it will not be able to access your friend’s list. If you have already connected with (or have a separate account with) the application, it may also be able to connect you with your friend on the application or website. If the application or website wants to access any of your other content or information (including your friend’s list), it will have to obtain specific permission from your friend. If your friend grants specific permission to us, we will generally only be able to access content and information about you that your friend can access. In addition, we will only be allowed to use that content and information in connection with that friend. For example, if a friend gives us access to a photo you only shared with your friends, the application could allow your friend to view or print the photo, but it cannot show that photo to anyone else.
We provide you with a number of tools to control how your information is shared when your friend connects with the application. For example, you can use your Application and Websites privacy setting on Facebook to limit some of the information your friends can make available to applications and websites. You can block all platform applications and websites completely or block particular applications or websites from accessing your information. You can use your privacy settings on Facebook to limit which friends can access your information or limit which of your information is available to “everyone.” You can also disconnect from a friend if you are uncomfortable with how they are using your information.
You (and those you make your information available to) may use tools like RSS feeds, mobile phone address book applications or copy and paste functions, to capture, export (and in some cases, import) information from Facebook, including your information and information about you. For example, if you share your phone number with your friends, they may use third party applications to sync that information with the address book on their mobile phone.
Disclosure of Information to Others
We disclose to third parties within your country and abroad your personal information, combined personal, demographic, behavioural or indirect information, as set forth below. In each of these situations, the recipients of your data may potentially be located in any country in the world. If you are a resident in any EU member state, for example, you must be aware that the EU authorities do not generally consider that the regulations of non-EU countries ensure an adequate or equivalent level of protection as compared to the EU data protection regulations.
1. We may share your information with third parties who help us in the delivery of our own products and services to you. We disclose information to companies and individuals we employ to perform functions on our behalf. Examples include hosting our web servers, analysing data, providing marketing assistance, processing credit card payments and providing customer service. These companies and individuals may be located in a country whose data protection legislation is different from your country and they will have access to your personal information as necessary to perform their functions, but they may not share that information with any other third party or use that data for any other purpose. We will remain responsible for any information shared in this way.
2. We may disclose such information to third parties if you consent to such disclosure. For example, if you make your profile publicly visible, then anyone who searches for you on the internet will have access to your profile. If you indicate by configuring your profile that you would like to receive information about the opportunities, products or services of third parties, we supply your contact information to select third parties such as employers, recruiters, data aggregators, marketers or others for the purpose of sending you e-mails or otherwise communicating with you. We use data we have about you (such as the interests and preferences you have expressed) to determine whether you might be interested in the opportunities, products or services of a particular third party.
3. We also share aggregated anonymous information about users with Monster’s clients, partners, other application users and other third parties such as advertisers so that they can understand the kinds of users of the application and how users use the application. We may also aggregate on an anonymous basis data regarding job qualifications, education, age, experience level or other information. Such aggregated data does not identify users individually and may be made available to employers or fellow job seekers or users of the application.
4. We disclose information if legally required to do so, or at our discretion pursuant to a request from a governmental entity or if we believe in good faith – after considering your privacy interests and other factors – that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to legal requirements or comply with legal process; (b) protect our rights or property or our affiliated companies; (c) prevent a crime or protect national security; or (d) protect the personal safety of users or the public. Because Monster Worldwide, Inc. is a U.S. company and information collected on our Sites is stored in whole or in part in the United States, your information may become subject to U.S. law.
5. We may disclose and transfer such information to a third party who acquires any or all of Monster’s business units, whether such acquisition is by way of merger, consolidation or purchase of all or a substantial portion of our assets. In addition, in the event Monster becomes the subject of an insolvency proceeding, whether voluntary or involuntary, Monster or its liquidator, administrator, receiver or administrative receiver may sell, licence or otherwise dispose of such information in a transaction approved by the court. You will be notified of the sale of all or a substantial portion of our business to a third party by email or through a prominent notice posted on the application.
Your Choices About Your Information
Because this application is designed to allow you to share your information and to allow others to find you, we import your General Information from your Facebook account and make certain information about you publicly available by default. You may choose your visibility preference for the following sections of your profile/account:
-
Contact Information (and also specifically control the fields: Email, Address, Phone Number, Twitter/IM, and Website)
-
Summary
-
Experience
-
Education
-
Skills
-
Interests
-
Memberships & Awards
The default setting for these fields is “Everyone”, except Contact Information will be set to “1st degree Connections”, which is generally the most restrictive setting available for this application. You may also restrict the visibility of your email address to “No one”. Information set to “Everyone” is publicly available information, such as your name, profile picture and connections. Such information may, for example, be accessed by everyone on the internet, including users without BeKnown or Facebook accounts and may appear in public search engine search results. However, you can control the visibility of your information by managing your privacy settings. You can also restrict the information available to others by deleting information you do not want visible or by not providing it at all.
When you post information on another user’s profile or comment on another user’s post, that information will be subject to the other user’s privacy settings.
Also, because managing your career is a life-long process, we retain all the information we gather about you in an effort to make your repeat use with us more efficient, practical and relevant until you change or remove your personal data as described below. You may have access to, review, correct, update, change or delete your account profile information or resume at any time. Simply log into your account, go to your profile and make the necessary changes. Before providing you with a copy of your personal information or correcting, updating or deleting such information, we reserve the right to verify and authenticate your identity and the personal information to which you have requested access. Access to or correction, updating or deletion of your personal information may be denied or limited by Monster if it would violate another person’s rights and/or as otherwise permitted by applicable law. We will respond to information access requests within 30 days of receipt. If we require additional time to provide access to your information, we will acknowledge receipt of your request within 30 days and promptly supplement our response within the time period required by applicable law.
If you wish to delete or close your account or account profile information altogether, please delete the application. Once the application is deleted, we will delete your information from the database. We will use reasonable efforts to learn from Facebook when you delete the application. An email will be sent to you to confirm that your personal information has been deleted (except for an archival copy which is not accessible by you or third parties on the Internet). The archival copy is retained only for as long as Monster reasonably considers necessary for audit and record purposes. We will also retain logs, demographic, indirect and statistical information that may relate to you but do not identify you personally. If your personal information was previously accessed by others using the application, we are not able to delete the information or copies thereof from their accounts or systems. Even after you remove information from your profile or delete your account, copies of that information may remain viewable elsewhere to the extent it has been shared with others or it was copied or stored by other users.
If you do not want your information to be processed as described by this policy, you may revoke your consent to our Privacy Policy. If you wish to do so, please contact us. However, please note that if you do withdraw your consent, you will not be able to use the relevant services and your account and profile information will be deleted.
If you previously opted to receive newsletters, commercial e-mails or other communications from Monster or third parties, but subsequently change your mind, you may opt out by editing your account profile as described above. If you previously opted not to receive such communications, you may later opt in by editing your account profile. You may not opt out of receiving informational and service-related communications or security updates.
Important Additional Information
Security
Monster has implemented technical and organisational measures designed to secure your personal information from accidental loss and from unauthorised access, use, alteration or disclosure. Notwithstanding such measures, the Internet is an open system and we cannot guarantee that unauthorised third parties will not be able to defeat those measures or use your personal information for improper purposes. Moreover, one of our primary purposes is to provide you with a platform to broadcast the information in your profile widely in order to maximise your career opportunities. Such an environment does present a risk that unauthorised third parties will view this data, so you should refer to the Facebook Security Centre for additional information on Internet safety. Further, you should not share any sensitive data that you would not want made public. You should be aware that this application may be monitored by your current employer.
When you place an order online at Monster, your credit card information is protected through the use of encryption, such as the Secure Socket Layer ("SSL") protocol. SSL makes it difficult for your credit card information to be intercepted or stolen while being transmitted. We also use cookies, web beacons and Java Script to administer our site and deliver a personalised experience. For additional detailed information on each of these, please see below.
Children
This application is not intended for, nor do we knowingly collect information from, children under the age of 13.

If you would like to contact us directly about the Safe Harbour programme, please contact us.
If you live outside the EEA, Monster endeavours to comply with applicable law for the international transfer of your personal information.
Changes to Privacy Statement
If we decide to materially change the substance of this Privacy Statement, we will, where legally required, contact you via the email address that you maintain in your profile. We will also post those changes through a prominent notice on the web site so that you will always know what information we gather, how we might use that information and to whom we will disclose it.

Your California Rights
A California resident who has provided personal information to a business with whom he/she has established a business relationship for personal, family or household purposes (“California customer”) is entitled to request information about whether the business has disclosed personal information to any third parties for the third parties’ direct marketing purposes. In general, if the business has made such a disclosure of personal information, upon receipt of a request by a California customer, the business is required to provide a list of all third parties to whom personal information was disclosed in the preceding calendar year, as well as a list of the categories of personal information that were disclosed.
However, under the law, a business is not required to provide the above-described lists if the business adopts and discloses to the public (in its privacy policy) a policy of not disclosing customer’s personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes unless the customer first affirmatively agrees to the disclosure, as long as the business maintains and discloses this policy. Rather, the business may comply with the law by notifying the customer of his or her right to prevent disclosure of personal information and providing a cost-free means to exercise that right.
As stated in our Privacy Policy, we do not share information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes unless you affirmatively agree to such disclosure. If you do ask us to share your information with a third party for its marketing purposes, we will only share information in connection with that specific promotion, as we do not share information with any third party on a continual basis. To prevent disclosure of your personal information for use in direct marketing by a third party, do not opt in to such use when you provide personally identifiable information to us. Please note that whenever you opt in to receive future communications from a third party, your information will be subject to the third party's privacy policy. If you later decide that you do not want that third party to use your information, you will need to contact the third party directly, as we have no control over how third parties use information. You should always review the privacy policy of any party that collects your information to determine how that entity will handle your information.
California customers may request further information about our compliance with this law by contacting us. Please note that we are only required to respond to one request per customer each year and we are not required to respond to requests made by means other than through this e-mail address.
Use of Cookies, Web Beacons and Java Script
Cookies: Monster uses "cookies" to help personalise and maximise your BeKnown experience, including for storing user preferences, improving search results and ad selection as well as tracking user trends.
A cookie is a text file that is either stored in your computer’s memory temporarily (a “session” cookie) or placed on your hard drive (a “persistent” cookie) by a Web page server. Cookies are not used to run programmes or deliver viruses to your computer. Cookies are uniquely assigned to your computer and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.
When you return to the BeKnown application, cookies enable us to retrieve the information you previously provided, so you can easily use the features that you customised. Because of our use of cookies, we can deliver faster and more accurate results as well as a more personalised site experience.
We predominantly use “session” cookies, which are not permanently stored on your hard drive. Session cookies expire after two hours of inactivity or when you close your browser. For example, when you carry out a job search or apply online a large amount of data is processed by our system and transferred through each page of the search or application process. This information includes your job search criteria, data that identifies your resume, covering letter, the job you are applying for, your right to work in the relevant country and the results of any questionnaire you have completed as part of the online application process as well as demographic information that is not unique to you. “Session” cookies allow us to keep track of this data until you have completed your search or application. We also use cookies to identify users who have been banned from using our forums for behaviour that contradicts our terms of use and to track click streams, for load balancing and to enable you to navigate through the site using redirection pages.
We use “persistent” cookies primarily to ensure that we do not show you pages that you have already seen and to personalise your site experience and save you time. “Persistent” Cookies enable us to recognise whether you have responded to any poll or seen an advertisement or information notice placed on the site so that we do not show you the poll, advertisement or notice again the next time you visit our site. The “persistent” cookies we use will remain on your computer after you have left our site and will expire when you log out of the Site or 60 days after your last visit for security cookies, 90 days after your last visit for poll response and alliance cookies or two years after your last visit for advertisement and information notice cookies.
We also allow other companies to display advertisements to you while you are visiting BeKnown. Because your web browser will request these advertisements from the other companies’ servers (“third party ad servers”), these companies can view, edit or set their own cookies, just as if you had requested a web page from their site. Monster has no control over, and is not responsible for, the practices of those third party advertisers. Monster encourages you to review the policies of such advertisers.
You will find additional information about the following third party ad serving companies at www.doubleclick.com; www.atlassolutions.com/privacy; and www.omniture.com/en/privacy. We use other third party ad servers as well; a way to opt out of third party cookies is to modify your browser settings to decline cookies as described at the end of this statement. You may also click here to see a list of many of the companies that Monster works with in connection with serving personalised ads. Otherwise, if you do not wish to allow your session visitation information on the application to be aggregated and analysed by Omniture or used by Omniture to tailor dynamic content to your specific interests, you may utilise the following opt-out mechanism www.omniture.com/en/privacy/policy#optout.
We use persistent cookies and related technologies (such as web beacons described below) to determine and track direct and indirect candidate application traffic in response to Job Postings either on BeKnown, Monster or on the websites of third parties through Monster’s Career-Ad-Network (described below). We also allow persistent third party cookies as part of online advertising campaigns to determine and track traffic landing from advertising banners that have been placed on the websites of third parties. The data collected via these cookies is anonymous and the information is not linked to your personally identifiable information without your permission. The “persistent” cookies placed by our third party ad servers will remain on your device after you have left the application for up to 20 years unless you choose to delete them.
We also use “persistent” cookies in connection with our Career Ad Network (“CAN”). The CAN cookie is used to display relevant job ads to you on Monster and when you visit other web sites. The information collected by the CAN cookie is treated in accordance with the policies and practices described in our Privacy Statement above. The “persistent” cookie we use in CAN will remain on your computer after you have left BeKnown and will expire six months after it was set.
You have the ability to update or opt out of the CAN cookie by clicking on the following link: http://can.monster.com/cookie-technology.aspx. Monster enforces your opt out of CAN by setting a “blocking cookie”. In order for the blocking cookie to work on your computer, your browser must be set to accept third party cookies. The blocking cookie for CAN will last for five years; however, if you delete your browser cookies, your opt-out cookie, as well as any updates you may have made, will also be deleted. In addition, your opt-out only applies in the browser you are using at the time you opt out and only on the computer you are using at such time. If you buy a new computer, change web browsers or delete this cookie, you will need to perform the opt-out task again. Opting-out of the CAN cookie does not mean you will no longer receive online advertising from CAN. It does mean that the ads delivered to you by CAN will no longer be tailored to your Web browsing patterns. Once you opt out CAN no longer maintains a targeting cookie on your computer, so the ads will be general in nature and could be repetitive.
This application uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”). Google Analytics uses cookies to help us analyse how users use the application. The information generated by the cookie about your use of BeKnown (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of BeKnown, compiling reports on your activity for operators and providing other services relating to your activity and Internet usage. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law or where such third parties process the information on Google's behalf. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. You have the ability to accept or decline cookies at any time by modifying your browser settings. See below for instructions. If you choose to decline cookies, however, that may hinder performance and negatively impact your experience on BeKnown.
Additionally, Monster uses “Flash cookies”, also known as “Local Shared Objects”, to preserve video player settings and for user authentication purposes. You can adjust your settings for your Flash cookies here.
Web Beacons: Monster Web pages and the Web pages of our partners also utilise electronic images known as Web beacons (sometimes called single-pixel gifs, clear gifs or action tags) that allow us to collect certain information about users’ visits to these Web pages (including the number of users who have visited those pages), measure and improve the effectiveness of advertisements and job postings, and deliver co-branded services. Web beacons are not used to access your personally identifiable information; they are a technique used to compile aggregated statistics about usage. Web beacons collect only a limited set of information including a cookie number, time and date of page view and a description of the page on which the Web beacon resides. This information may be shared with third party processors for processing on behalf of Monster, as well as with clients, partners and other third parties so that they can understand the kinds of visitors to the Web pages, how those visitors use those Web Pages, and the effectiveness of their advertisements and job postings.
Because Web beacons are the same as any other content request included in the recipe page, you cannot opt out or refuse them. However, they can be rendered ineffective by either opting out of cookies or changing the cookie setup in your browser.
JavaScript: Monster also uses JavaScript, for example, within certain advertisements. JavaScript is a script language that enhances the functionality of websites and applications, particularly in respect to pictures. We are not collecting any personal data via JavaScript but use it to inform employers about how many applicants have clicked on email addresses embedded in their job ads, for example. You may deactivate JavaScript via your browser settings or activate it the same way. If you disable JavaScript you will not be able to use some of the functions of the application.
